New Supply Chains
Collapse of Existing Support Structures Enables the Creation of More Resilient Structures
There’s nothing like a good metaphor for increasing communication mileage. Since early on in 2020 one of the results many economists and others predicted about a protracted pandemic were supply chain breakdowns. I’ve seen evidence of these changes in numerous ways, from rice not being as perennially available in the bulk bin at the grocery store as it once was, to my publisher telling me that their printer would not be able to deliver the pre-sale copies of my book to me on time.
More on pre-sale copies in a minute, but first the use of an opportunistic metaphor while I make a point: Changes in our emotional supply chains are afoot as well. As an astrologer I can tell you that we’ll be feeling the complex emotional supply and demand web-like chains we’ve grown accustomed to, no longer operating the way they used to, due to missing and ruptured links in the chain. And we’ll be feeling the effects much more strongly now, in autumn, post equinox, especially during the month of October with many planets retrograde until mid-month. And it will be up to us to forge new links in the broken chains.
In the process of the old chains breaking as they have since at least January 2020, (due to deaths or ongoing illness, economic hardship for some, climate migration, job and career shifts due to the pandemic shuffle, etc.) you may find yourself examining whether the old links, (the old ways relationships were set up,) are still working for you. And if they’re not working, what new links do you want to update them with?
Here in the town of Ashland where I live, amidst all the endings and supply chain breakdowns, we had a glorious book launch party this past Friday night. We pulled the “perfect weather” card and even had clear skies (something we haven’t had here for a couple months due to smoke from wildfires.) Friends who began a new gallery in a converted barn devoted to exploring the intersection of art and resilience, worked with me to host a delightful evening. As Venus was setting, we gathered and enjoyed one another over food and drink, while I got to share stories from and about the book, with copies of the books set up in a cute little teardrop trailer. I even got a new pink dress, for Venus’ sake, for the occasion, with a little help from my sisters…
I’ll be holding a virtual launch later this month for any of you who would like to help me celebrate and hear some stories, likely Friday, October 22nd, on Zoom. Stay tuned for more details and your invitation!
My publisher has informed me that my pre-sale copies should be leaving the printer sometime soon. (Supply chain issues in the publishing industry have caused delays.) As soon as they arrive on my doorstep, I will be mailing them out to you – “you have my word,” as they say.
